Blocks and heads using a 360° oil groove located behind the bearing oil feed, allow one to move the clock position of the cam bearing oil feed hole. Your machine shop will insist 6 o'clock position is the way they have always done it. Use only stock or Edelbrock Springs 350-5802 or 350-5902 (for rotators). Use Performer-Link Timing Chain Gear Set 350-7802 or similar set. They are machined in a retarded position and are not recommended for this camshaft installation. ![]() That is looking at the engine from the front. The next time you put cam bearings in a sbc make sure the oil holes are a the 4 o'clock position. ![]() The oil pressure spikes from the con rod oil feed holes in the crank being shut off and on can cause the cam to bounce up and down which results in lifter bleed off and ticking. Also with hot thin oil at low engine speeds on the center mains. When the cam hole and the crank feed hole are aligned up almost no oil can get to the cam journal when heavy valve springs are used. The only oil hole in the groove goes to feed the crank bearings. There is a deep groove under the bearings. There are not any oil holes in the block to line the cam bearings up to. That paragraph is a copy from the six cylinder section and is incorrect for the sbc. Chevy engine manuals always have a paragraph that says to line up the oil holes with the holes in the block. Goatroper2 knows the correct way to install sbc cam bearings.
